Why convert HEIC to PDF?

HEIC is the default format for iPhone and iPad photos since iOS 11, but many older systems, online forms, and viewers only accept JPEG or PDF. Converting to PDF gives you a single-page document anyone can open and print.

Is the photo uploaded anywhere?

No. heic2any decodes the HEIC stream entirely in your browser, then pdf-lib embeds the JPEG client-side. Confirm in your browser Network tab that no upload happens.

Why does the file get larger?

HEIC uses HEVC compression which is more efficient than JPEG. The intermediate JPEG output of heic2any is larger than the original HEIC at the same quality, and the PDF wrapping adds a small overhead. Output is typically 1.5–2× the source size.

What about HEIF, the related format?

HEIF (.heif) and HEIC (.heic) share the same container; the difference is the codec inside. The tool accepts both extensions. Sequences (multi-image HEIC) take only the first image.
